Emile and Timothy are two nice, elderly ghosts who live in their ruined ancestral house. They have never bothered anyone and no one has ever bothered them, until the day a demolition crew turns up at their doorstep. Their old house is to be demolished and they must seek a home elsewhere. Terrified at the very thought of going out at night, they have no choice but to leave their home for the first time ever since they became ghosts. But nothing out there is what it used to be. Tall buildings rise above them and the remnants of the ancient wall opposite their house, which was always there, are now ringed by mounds of freshly dug-up earth and by yellow ribbons marking the site as an archaeological excavation.
Emile and Timothy are terrified at the view of the first passer-by and are trying to hide, when they hear loud laughter. A strange group of people emerge from within the ancient ruins: a laughing, fat little man with a bushy beard, a red nose and a pot belly, a very old man, and a little boy with a puppy in his arms.
